The Last Week of Classes

Classes have just ended at Florida State, and it's time to start getting ready for exam week. Some people will be partying like the 1853 students pictured above, some will be meeting with students and writing exams, and others will be celebrating by posting on their blogs. In honor of final exams, here are some sample questions from the hilarious book I just read, The Adventures of Mr. Verdant Green: An Oxford Undergraduate.

Mr. Green and his friends convince a new student that he has to answer these questions, among others, to pass his entrance exams:

1. In what way were the shades on the banks of the Styx supplied with spirits?
2. Give a brief account of the Roman Emperors who visited the United States, and state what they did there.
3. If seven horses eat twenty-five acres of grass in three days, what will be their condition on the fourth day? Prove by practice.
4. Reduce two academical years to their lowest terms.
5. If a freshman A have any mouth x, and a bottle of wine y, show how many applications of x to y will place y + y before A.

Feel free to use any of these on your exams, David.

Wow, havn't undergrads changed???

A comment on the "Room with the View" question... I haven't seen the new version, but how in the world could anyone improve on the Daniel Day Lewis and Helena Bonham Carter original version??? It is definitely one of my top five movies of all time, and the first movie I owned. It also got me hooked on all the E.M. Forster books and movies... all wonderful.
