David's Birthday

This weekend was David's birthday.

We went to Wakulla Springs to celebrate.

It's one of our favorite places.

And we took the boat tour, which never fails to be amazing.

The sky was full of ospreys.

The spring was full of waterfowl of all sorts.

This is one of a huge flock of white ibis that was flying around from tree to tree.

Here a juvenile white ibis (the gray bird) is hanging out with a juvenile little blue heron (the white bird). They were keeping their distance from the adult birds of both species. We thought they probably didn't want to be embarrassed.

This is the classic Wakulla Springs picture: a row of giant Suwannee Cooter turtles and one small alligator.

An alligator napping among the pickerel weed and fallen maple keys.

An alligator giving us a look. I have never seen so many alligators.

The best part was that David got to see manatees for the first time! I thought they wouldn't show up until later in the year, but it turned out that several manatees spent the winter in Wakulla Springs.
