Anniversary at Lake Jackson

On our 11th anniversary we went to Lake Jackson View Park.

It's a great park with a lot of green space.

You can walk down through the pine trees to Lake Jackson, which is a marshy lake that occasionally disappears into a sinkhole and then reappears.

The marshy area is a wonderful place to see birds. We saw a wood stork, a great blue heron, cormorants, a towhee, red-winged blackbirds, and an orchard oriole.

Next time, we might bring chairs and sit by this pool of the lake to see what other birds might come.

Things I Learned on a Stormwater Walk

Lake Ella is really pretty early in the morning.

There is a reason the water is so blue, and it's because of a cool water treatment system that also helps keep toxins and trash out of our drinking water.

It's also the reason why birds and other wildlife love Lake Ella.

The invasive false apple snail is enormous.

The wetlands at the foot of Lake Jackson are also part of a water filtration system.

And they are beautiful.
