David and I took a mini-vacation to Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville. We spent one night in a hotel in a nature preserve, and we had a great time hiking the birdwatching trails.

There was a tangle of branches overhead, with brilliant scarlet maple keys.

The nature preserve is a wooded marsh, which makes it a perfect bird habitat.

We saw a flock of maybe a hundred of these guys. We think they were robins, but they were an unusually bright orange.

We also saw flowers.

And lizards.

And lots of turtles.

The turtles were relaxing in the sun, stretching their legs out and balancing on their bellies.

This one really looked like it was trying to do a Superman pose.
